Music a power house of FUN!
There are so many benefits when we play a musical instrument and listen to music! And you don’t need to be a professional musician to gain the benefits. Look at the popularity of drum circles throughout the world. All ages are participating in community drumming, it brings people together from all cultures, genders, ages and religion. This is the power of community music-making!
Percussion ensemble music
On my things to do list, before I depart this body is to compose more percussion ensemble music for students of all ages. Since 1992 I’ve taught all ages in my drum lessons, it always inspired me as a drum teacher to see students continue their passion for music and grow their leadership skills. What really gave me goosebumps was seeing students in my school workshops working together, growing with each lesson and sharing group success as a percussion ensemble. Those kids taught me so much about creativity and boy they picked rhythms up really quickly. I really enjoy working with kids.
Exotic instruments
My intention composing these new percussion ensemble pieces is to combine classroom and Orff instruments plus other fun percussion instruments from around the world. From the African djembe drum to Tibet sound healing instrument the tingshas, all these instruments in combination are beautiful, they complement each other superbly. I’m actually learning how to play more melodic instruments (it’s been a dream of mine for a long time), such as xylophone and ukulele, now that my hands are feeling a lot better. I love these instruments and from now on will be including them in Positive Music Drum Circle Facilitator Training.
About Joey’s Jive
There are many fun percussion instruments I included in Joey’s Jive, from big concert drums, a few hand drums to wah-wah, gongs and xylophones and glockenspiel for melody. The sheet music will be complete and available to download 2nd week of September 2020. So, if you’re a music teacher or classroom teacher working with groups this song hopefully inspires students. I’ve created three play-along tracks to assist students and teachers, which the song Joey’s Jive now can be downloaded.
