Have you ever wondered what kind of drum gets the nod and approval of all ages?
Have you thought why drum circles are so energising?
Oh yes the sound of distant grooves from the pulsating drum circle permeating the air. A beautiful memory while drumming in Hawaii with friends while studying drum circle facilitation. As we made our way from our lodge to the drum circle area… did I mention the drum circle area is right near the beach… just imagine that for a second….
Anyway, making our way closer to the grooving drum circle, first I hear the low pitch drums pulsating out a groove that will have anyone dance with joy. The bass drum rhythms become an invitation, saying come, come and drum with us. The low pitch drum rhythms draw us in like a child in a candy store. There’s something tribal about bass drums within the drum circle, they just make us want to move to the beat, tap our toes and swivel our hips.
First dibs on low pitch drums
I asked my fellow world drum circle facilitator friends, what are their most popular drum within the drum circle. The verdict has come in with an overwhelming cheer for the bass drum and a close second the African djembe drum. I gotto admit I love playing the low pitch drums within the drum circle and connecting with other low pitch drum players to create cool funky bass line grooves.
Many people of all ages from the very young to more mature adults love these kinds of drums. But of course, there comes huge responsibility when playing these kinds of drums within the drum circle. The role of the low pitch drums can be of a leadership role with lots of patience, wisdom and support required from the player. If the bass line is shaky and not sitting in a groove the whole drum circle will collapse. But of course, all of this is and lots more are taught in my drum circle facilitator training.
