For centuries drumming has been used for celebrating community, meditation and self-healing
No matter what kind of drumming circle I'm facilitating, I always bring a low pitch drum for the music-making. The low pitch drum is the heart of the rhythm, it inspires us to move, feel grounded and plays a supporting role to all other drum and percussion instruments.
This week I'm featuring the Remo Bahia Buffalo drum (FYI: I am an endorsee of Remo as a Drum Circle Facilitator, however I didn't get paid to make this video). I use this drum a lot in my corporate, online drumming course and community rhythm-events, especially when I'm working in small groups of around 5 to 25 participants.
Making drum circle facilitation easier
There are many rhythm interventions I use within my rhythm-events where I use Bahia Buffalo drum, in particular when I'm standing and moving about facilitating and playing the supporting rhythm for participants. Having this drum has actually changed the way I facilitate drum circles, I'm able to move about while keeping the rhythm going.
Drumming meditation book and healing music out now
I have been working on my new drumming and healing music book and songs which is now released. If you're looking to get more into the healing side of rhythm, sound and music-making keep please check out the store.
In the meantime here is the rhythm I played on the Bahia Buffalo drum in this video. It's nice and simple, really easy to play which is essential for relaxing the body and mind. (T) = accents (t) grace notes = softer.
Finding good combinations of instruments that sound great together will really inspire your playing and motivate taking time for relaxation and creativity. I love using Remo Bahia Buffalo drum and Sound Comfort Tubano drums together, and of course any time where I can play the Himalayan singing bowl for soothing vibrations.
