Too often I hear student say, “After drumming classes I forget the rhythms.” Sounding out rhythms may help embody rhythms – like singing the words of your favourite song.
Boost rhythm skills quickly with vocal percussion
Vocal percussion is a great way to really get into rhythm, learning this skill may help learn rhythms even quicker! Imagine sitting in your car at the lights (when it’s red) and practicing rhythms just with sounding out vowels to create rhythms. No drum insight, but still improving your rhythm and listening skills.
Learn the language of drumming
Vocal percussion is just like learning a new language, but it doesn’t have to be difficult to learn and understand. In this video I’ve come up with some simple vocal percussion ideas for you to explore. I’m a firm believer that everyone has rhythm and can play drums. I emphasize this in my drum circle facilitator training. I encourage you to be creative and explore your own simple vocal percussion formula – be really creative. There are no hard and fast rules.
