Join in with Group Drumming Musicality!

I’ve been on a creative spurt as you can tell by posting a few more blog posts and creating more drumming videos recently. It’s been lots of fun, learning how to use cameras, recording equipment and producing the overall sound quality.

Is it really about drumming?

I was asked to run a community drum circle event at one of my local yoga studios. I spent some time talking with the yoga instructor to find out what she wanted from the session. What she was really after was something creative and empowering for women. This short video demonstrate some of the percussion instruments that can be played in a group drumming workshop, and a glimpse into my personality as a rhythm facilitator. I wanted to show that you can have lots of fun making-music with any kind of instrument, it doesn’t necessarily need to be a drum or percussion instrument. So I rummaged through my drum circle kit and began play squeaky toys to demonstrate this – music doesn’t have to be serious…

As a rhythm facilitator I really enjoy encouraging participants to explore percussion instruments such as wood, shaker and bell sounds, plus some wacky sounds as well. It offers participants a lot more musical scope, more musical depth, giving the opportunity to experience and learn how to play a variety of instruments. I feel the more opportunities we have with diverse sounds within the group the more scope there is for creativity.

As I get older I find that I’m on a mission to get as many people to experience a rhythm circle. Where we come together in harmony, connect creatively and have fun. These are the core values in my drum circle facilitator training.
