Learn Djembe Drumming to Empower Positivity
Are you a beginner wanting to learn how to drum or someone who’s been to drumming classes for a long time but are unable to get together with others to drum? Don’t worry, don’t let that stop you from drumming. You can learn to drum on your own and still get the health benefits of drumming.
Actually it might be a great place to start and continue your drumming practice and develop and nurture your rhythmical and musical side – and yes we all have rhythm. When at home choose to drum any time you like. Set aside some time each day if possible. It only takes a short period of time to begin to receive the benefits of drumming. For me just making this video I drummed along to the Gratitude Affirmation song from Energise Your Life book for just one minute…yeap just one minute and boy did I feel great while playing and the feeling continued afterwards – it doesn’t take long to shift energy when we drum.
Bring intention to your drumming
So how can we get to that place of feeling great? It comes down to intention. When we have an intention for our drumming practice we can get to that place of freedom within. Intention gives us connection and confidence to explore our feelings, to bring meaning to our life, to explore and go beyond without judgement.
When I began drumming at the age of 12 years of age I thought drumming was learning rhythms; however I’ve been on a musical journey for most of my life and in the past 10 years I’ve realised that drumming is so much more. It’s exploring our own signature rhythm and we all have our own rhythm. We are all so unique; it gives a voice to our personality and with this our light shines through sound and rhythm, its sharing our voice with the world.
Using positive affirmations with drumming
Our thoughts are powerful. Ever since returning to my meditation practice over 5 years ago, I have witness the power of positive thinking and learned and continue to learn how to manage thoughts when things can get challenging in life. And let’s face it at times life can have its challenges. I’ve found that sound meditation either with singing bowls or the drum can clear the mind, lift the fog as they say. It allows us to see or hear the answers we’ve been searching for. It brings us closer to our heart.
Imagine using affirmations with your drumming practice, the positive energy that is being created in that moment and built up over time through drumming practice and how it can increase awareness. For example in this video the rhythm I’m playing is a simple calypso rhythm but it’s the affirmation of © Peta Minter Gratitude that is really connecting me to this rhythm. Music is emotion and when we have a positive affirmation while drumming it helps create positive energy and memory with that rhythm.
Music to inspire and uplift
I’ve composed, recorded and produced over 98 minutes of music with this in mind for Energise Your Life with Rhythm, Music and Sound book to inspire a positive life. My intention is this play-along positive music can help to rewire the brain to one of belonging, connection and peace of mind and empower our musicality. Drumming along to music with intention is powerful, so the next time you begin to drum, tune in to your heart through silence and pop on some music and begin empower yourself through music.
