Kid's of All ages love singing bowls
Singing bowls can be used for meditation, mindfulness and tuning the body into balance. They feel and sound amazing. Many sound therapy instruments are designed for this purpose, to re-balance physically and emotionally.
The Base Chakra
In this video I showcase the Base Chakra to help ground and be present. The Base Chakra is in the key of C with colour red, I explain in depth in my Sound Healing workshops for adults and children.
People of all ages love the Tibetan singing bowls, just recently I facilitated a kids workshop with a range of Himalayan singing bowls, gong and drum circle instruments. They really enjoyed exploring the sound and vibration. One little girl mentioned her favourite was the gong. It brought a smile to my face.
Depending on what sound therapy instrument being played in the kid’s workshop it changed the atmosphere immediately. We began with singing bowls and gongs and all the kids were engaged and focused, bringing a sense of relaxation and calmness. The energy in the room was one of lovely quietness.
Strategies for mindfulness
In my percussion workshops I facilitate strategies for mindfulness and how to quiet the mind and use sound therapy instruments for relaxation and focus. When played the singing bowls produce a binaural beat, which helps slow down our brain waves and reducing thoughts. It really brings kids into stillness and calm.
A Sound Bath with singing bowls relax where drumming energises the kids. I find this the perfect showcase of how vibration can change how we feel, can change our mood, even change the atmosphere or energy within the room literally within seconds. I use this as a metaphor in my school workshops.
Drumming circle for fun and connection
For the kids drumming circle I brought along my big Remo Buffalo drum (vegan skin), can also be called medicine drum (I love this drum, it sounds amazing), plus many hand drums for the kids to play in the drum circle. Before we got drumming as a group I invited each student to stand while I played the medicine drum near their body and the smiles on their faces were HUGE.
I brought along a lovely selection of colourful hand drums and percussion instruments i use in my drum circle facilitator training. Some from Africa, some from Brazil, pretty much all round the world; I like to call these drums and percussion instruments universal. And that there can be used as a discussion about individual countries.
What is it about drums? Kids of all ages are drawn to them. Is it something in our DNA, is it that primal instinct? By the time I introduced the drums the kids were chopping at the bit to get to them. Smiles galore!! I taught a few simple rhythms, short arrangement and we drummed and drummed! The kid’s workshop finished with laughter, huge smiles and positive energy within the room.
