Sound healing 5/4 frame drum rhythm to ease stress

The rhythm of five is so soothing and a great way to explore other time signatures with drumming meditation.
Notice in the video how the 5/4 frame drum rhythm is not too complex? By keeping it simple, basic and constant rhythm (not too many notes), we can build up self-confidence to explore and step into more of our creativity through sounds on the drum in this time signature.
Also notice the tempo, it’s around 80 beats per minute, great drumming meditation tempo for relaxing the body, regulating mood and lowering blood pressure. That’s just one of the benefits of drumming, whether playing on our own or in a group. It brings us into the moment. I wonder… is stress brought on by over thinking about the past and the future???
Tap into the wisdom of 5/4 drumming rhythm play-along music
I remember way back when I was studying drumkit with master drummer David Jones, who introduced me to this beautiful rhythm of five. I’m not quite sure of the spiritual significance of five, but there seems to be something special about it. It just feels so good. Like a rhythmical huge nurturing the heart.
The 5/4 drum rhythm I share in the video, can be played on many other hand drums and stick drums, so there’s no limit to the imagination… let’s get drumming.
Let’s take a closer look and listen to the play-along track called Resilience with this drumming meditation rhythm. I composed this drum playing song just a few weeks ago to celebrate International Day of Peace. As a certified sound healer, I love incorporating the beautiful range of sound therapy instruments, such as chimes, crystal singing bowl, small gongs and rattles which I bring to my in-person wellbeing programs in Melbourne and of course to top off the healing sound is the sweet melodies of the native American style flute.
The combination of flute, shakers and drum, sound so earthy and grounding. There’s something tribal with a sense of wisdom when these sounds are played together. These percussion and melodic instruments are great for drum circles too.
So, when I sit down and begin the process of composing a song it comes from the intention of healing.
The frame drum I chose for this song was just by luck. The drum is made from animal skin which can vary in pitch due to weather temperature. On this particular day I was in my recording studio it was nearly in tune with my native American flute… what are the chances? So, I thought it was meant to be.
Actually, there’s some history with this drum. My lovely father-in-law found this drum in an op shop in Tasmania (secondhand store). It’s actually handmade and day’s where the weather is just right it sounds beautiful, which can be heard in the recording of Resilience.
The healing power of music
Music is such a powerful tool for our wellbeing, it can change our mood in a short period of time, it can tap into feelings buried deep and gives us a voice, music allows us to move forward and through challenging times.
It could be a sound from a particular instrument, maybe a rhythm that’s being played in the drum circle that someone else connects with rhythmically and energetically, that connection, that deep connection (vibration/energy) can bring people together in such a way where words are unable to express. It’s those moments I teach in Positive Music drum circle facilitator training of authentic connection and remembrance that we are all one.
Over to you…
The more we incorporate meditation in our life the more we can tune in… tune in to what am I feeling in this moment, how to heal from our past experiences, take action on how to take care of our self.
What would it mean for you to wake up from a great night sleep feeling energised and ready to serve from the heart? Just take a moment and visualize this…
