Exploding creativity through healing sound of marimba, improvised flute & singing bowl music
Ever since I started with my mentor and teacher a few years ago who encouraged me to explore melody and harmony, I have never been more musically inspired and creative than I am now in my life.
It’s been like a world of wonder… another dimension of exploration with sound, rhythm and harmony. I am ever so grateful to work with such an experienced mentor/teacher, who has a world of musical knowledge, a master musician and composer.
For me it is so important to continue my education and learning in the field of sound healing through music. To have a mentor or coach to help guide me has made a huge transformation in how I view music, myself and life. Powerful stuff!
I have many student recourses for students to explore and to increase skills and techniques. And I continue to grow this area of student learning materials to help grow your skills.
If you checked out last week’s blog post How to Increase Joy & Grow Your Creativity you’ll understand the power of metaphysical healing elements of music. How sound vibrations effect our mind, body and spirit.
When we combine these healing musical elements together, not only do we have the opportunity to improve our own creativity, but also increase our musical experiences as meditation and spirituality. To connect with our true essence.
Do you facilitate your own drum circles or gather with like mined people who play music, or want to embrace music for wellbeing? By increasing your musical knowledge with healing elements of music can only take your playing and experiences to another level.
Let’s explore Song for Emma
I composed this song for my lovely niece, who at an early age would walk on her tip toes. I'm not quite sure whether she does this anymore. We recently spent some time together and she has moved me with her youthful spirit. I wanted to celebrate her by composing a short song.
As you can tell the rhythm or time signature of the song is in 5/8. It has a lovely flow effect from the marimba motif. I chose not to include drums at this stage as I wanted to create I light and airy feel.
Another melodic instrument that is included is the native American stye flute which in part of the song has a lovely duet with the harp. I love this particular flute, it has the sweetest sound, due to the flute makers intention and the woods he used to create this healing instrument.
Flute playing to a Song for Emma is improvised, which I love to do. Playing melody from the heart, for me is to improve is so soothing and healing, especially with an intention.
I also included a range of sound healing singing bowls from my sound therapy collection for the harmony and a keyboard pad underneath to support the melody. I added some chakra chimes to add air and enchantment.
Would you like me to add in a drum next week and show you how this can change the energy and dynamics of the song? Please let me know in the comments below.
When we view music from the metaphysical healing elements, whether you play a djembe drum, harp, marimba, flute, singing bowls etc. we can experience music in a way that brings positive energy, that enhances self-expression, a deeper connection to our essence and spirituality.
Music is powerful… let’s continue to keep exploring who we are through the healing vibrations of music and give back to our community and Mother Nature.
