Explore benefits of music with improvised djembe rhythms
What a time to be living in, where we have access to beautiful sound therapy instruments such as world drums to unite community. There are no more excuses for total beginners not to embrace and be part of community making music with one another.
Did you miss my last blog post about the benefits of improvisational music making? I touch on the importance of how facilitated drum circles help grow community engagement and enhance mental health programs. How rhythmic music brings an opportunity for personal transformational experiences no matter whether you are a professional musician, total beginner drummer or learning to facilitate your own drum circles.
As a peace-maker, musician and facilitator, the more we spread the word and share the benefits of drumming together, by including drum circles in community building the more we can profoundly shift those deep limiting beliefs of, I’m not musical enough to play with others.
Music is a universal language of the heart
With all the languages spoken throughout the world, one language that encapsulates all is rhythmic music. Drumming together as a collective unites us, brings hope and strengthens our resilience for a changing world.
By branching out and exploring your rhythmical heart song with others (improvised music making) and by learning a few simple djembe rhythms that helps develop a good sense of rhythm and time, you can build your confidence to join the circle.
Having a reference track such as a play along drum song will help your rhythmic confidence too. Giving you the freedom to let rip and let go without any judgement.
Remember we can be our worst critic. Simply let go of any missed notes or grooves mishaps, because we all have them. That’s a part growing. Keep learning, have patience, remember there is power in self-acceptance (love).
Whether you’re looking to building your rhythmic confidence to play along with a song, or in a drum circle, or even want to take that next step and be a leader in your community and join the tribe of drum circle facilitators and make a difference in your community. Take that first step… unlock your potential, because you are so worth it.
