Rhythmical vibrational drumming to energise the mind, body and spirit
In this video I play the supporting role for you to explore rhythms that come from your heart
When we think of creative drumming and playing rhythms as a sound healing tool, we’re talking about intuitive drumming, drumming rhythms that come from the heart or spontaneous playing. But of course, if you are just starting out, maybe finding your feet with drumming for healing, a wonderful place to start and build rhythmical confidence is to learn a few drum meditative rhythms.
For this drum healing play along I suggest starting by simply listening. Tune into sounds of the sound therapy instruments…what can you hear? The track you’re listening to is also for sound healing, a meditative song to ease stress and tension. Do you have headphones? If you can play the song through headphones.
My intention when recording and producing this play-along song is to sooth the mind and heart. I’ve included a beautiful collection of my singing bowls for harmony in the song. Sometimes when I hear Himalayan singing bowls they sound like violins and cellos, that’s why I love playing them in my sound baths and teaching in my Positive Music sound healing trainings in Melbourne. Not only are Himalayan singing bowls therapeutic for the mind, body and spirit but highly musical.
If you’re an avid reader of my blog you know I mention (love sharing) the four healing elements of music in many posts? All are included in this drum healing play song.
- Harmony
- Rhythm
- Melody
- Silence
In the song I’m playing the supporting role, keeping time for you with the drum. The rhythm I play is sparse and simple, hopefully encouraging you to bounce off and get into that create space within and explore your own rhythm. If you want to play the rhythm in the song here is what I played.
First rhythm
The drum rhythm that I play is a two bar pattern
Rhythm A
Rhythm B
You can play any kind of drum for this song. It’s about exploring your creativity through rhythm. Trust what you play, remember there are no mistakes, just keep listening… no thinking! Just listen to the music and go with the flow and trust what comes out of you as an expression of what is in your heart.
What are the most popular sound therapy instruments in sound baths?
As a life student who is always learning and certified sound practitioner, it’s my experience that each group is unique. It comes down to energy on the day within the group. As a life student I continue to learn and let go (which has been an ongoing lesson…). To serve the attendees within the group is to trust the process, tune in and go with what is presented to me in that moment of each sound healing session.
One of the most loved sound therapy instruments I play in my Positive Music sound baths is the buffalo drum or as some call it the medicine drum. Just a few days ago I facilitated a few private sound healings for small group of ladies. And once again the compliments came for the drum (I also sing mantras while playing the drum).
The drum is a powerful healing tool! For those who struggle to quiet the mind (many people), the rhythms and particular tempos being played on the medicine drum help guide those to be more present. Become more aware, a sense of feeling grounded a strength of life energy within the body. This can elevate over thinking thoughts. Once the mind is more at rest other sound therapy instruments can begin to nurture mind, body and spirit.
Some feedback from last Sunday session.
“The Sound Bath experience, as a small group, was just a privilege to undertake. All of us felt very blessed and lucky to be able to listen and feel the sounds as a close group of friends and we found ourselves sharing our individual experiences after. What a lovely joyful way to begin our Sunday.” – Melissa
Grow the healer within
I believe given the desire, opportunity, patience, and time we can learn to be our own healer. Through meditation, sound therapy, even a personal coach we can turn around life challenges as one of opportunities to heal. But more on this topic another time. I will be sharing the challenges I faced, lessons I learned about myself of my experience when I contracted covid.
