We naturally are drawn to the healing sounds of music
Watch the above video
Music is a form of therapy; it can take us on a journey of remembrance to pivotal moments from our time stream. Music can be a form of healing the heart, caressing the mind and energising the body.
This week I decided to dive into more sound healing with the beautiful native American style flute. Actually, these days I’m exploring more melody and harmony to round out my own sound healing practice. (you’re never too old to learn).
As I mentioned in the video, it is freeing to explore sound and music without time. As a drummer that has its challenge. Our job as drummers is to keep time … right? Though for us drummers out there keep exploring the inner world of music as a meditation tool. This invites us to see sound and music in a totally different way with no time. Just sound. Just like sound scapes.
Sound scapes draws us deep into sound, the vibration and naturally allows us to let go of rhythm of sound. Does that make sense? Many parts of my sound baths are playing with sound and no rhythm at all, yet there is a flow within and sense of freedom. It feels like there’s no time… literally. Our mind is taken on a journey into a realm beauty and no space. This is where time doesn’t exist. Have you experienced this before?
Have you ever been playing a musical instrument, listening to healing music, meditating or experiencing a sound bath and time has flown? Exploring music in this way can not only be freeing but healing for the spirit. In my Positive Music sound healing trainings, I share many ways to incorporate these elements into practice.
Silence the mind with healing sounds of melody
Music is just like meditation… yes? The benefits are huge, just like meditation! Such as it lowers blood pressure, improves deep breathing, boosts the immune system, calms the mind, increases focus, expands creativity and imagination, promotes compassion and tolerance. It gives us a sense of wellbeing.
Melody plays a huge part of Positive Music teacher trainings, where simple melodic instruments that are used in drum circles, such as Hapi drum or chime tubes are popular. By having melody in either our day-to-day practice or classrooms and community programs, we give our self the opportunity to delve deeper into the therapeutic value of music.
From my own experience facilitating Positive Music wellness programs either in the workplace or schools where the outcomes are wellness, communication, connection or teamwork, melody plays a huge part in bringing deeper connection with each other in the drum circle. Which means a sense of wellbeing.
Never underestimate the healing power of music. If you are interested in diving deeper into meditation through drumming please check out my online drumming meditation course, Rhythmical Empowerment for Wellbeing.
