What does music mean to you, is it an important part of your life? How has music made a difference to you?
Music has been a life saver for me during the world pandemic. Did you know that Melbourne has been the most locked-down city in the world, seven times in lockdown with 246 days? I think it was around the 6th lockdown I started to really feel the effects on my mental health. I’ve been quite fortunate to have already setup a space at home to record singing bowls and compose music before the world went into lockdown.
If you’ve been following my music blog you know that I’m an advocate for music as a form of meditation and group music-making or drum circles a wellbeing tool for our mind, body and spirit. When we first went into lockdown I created an online drumming meditation course, where it delves deep into how and when we use drumming to help ease over thinking and how sound works on our mind.
Life can be a challenge…
Sometimes there are challenging events in our life that call us to go deeper, deeper into healing, to look at what needs healing. I think this is one of those times for me anyway. A time for self-reflection, a time for me to be gentle and compassionate with myself. I find its easy to beat myself up over things like, I should be more this or more that, I should have it all together. However awareness is the key for me and this awareness of self-judgment has been a light bulb time to take care of myself. Maybe you could relate?
There’s something about music that helps me to get to that place of emotional wellbeing, that goes straight to my heart. Could it be love? It’s like a sonic massage of mind, body and spirit. I listen to inspiring music or like at this very moment, I’m finishing off a track for my new drum therapy project (which will be coming out in the next 2 weeks) that has a lovely gentleness about it, which puts me into that mood of self-compassion and gentleness.
I understand that we all go through challenging times and I wanted to help others by creating music, educational videos and student resources to grow rhythm skills. And at this point I want to say a HUGE thank you to my Members who have been a wonderful support. You have helped me continue to make music and kept up my spirits, so thank you.
Singing bowl meditation video
I felt in need of time out and for meditation and I wanted to share a short-guided meditation with you. These beautiful singing bowls I play in my in person sound baths. They are amazing for meditation music! I hope this guided meditation can help you through challenging times as it gave me peace of mind as I created it.
