Explore melody music for wellbeing
Go deeper into music for wellbeing and add melody to any drum circle with xylophone, Hapi drum and Kalimba. Did you know that you don’t need to be a musician to play these beautiful percussion instruments? Just a good sense of rhythm!
How exciting is that! For those of you who have never trained, either in reading music or playing melodic instruments this is a day of enlightenment. A day of embracing your creativity with melody. Drumming is a powerful tool for grounding and connection with our inner tribal rhythmic being, where melody is the heart song of the drum circle music. It brings us into our heart where we can experience and explore making music on a deeper level, where words cannot express our feelings.
Get started with melodic instruments
As you can see from the video I’ve included a simple rhythm with the Hapi drum and xylophone (though there is coordination with the xylophone rhythm – all that’s needed is practice) and a melody solo with Sansula Kalimba. I bring all these instruments and more to Positive Music drum circle facilitator training; the aim of the training is wellbeing through rhythm, sound and music. Many people attend the training for personal development or improving group facilitator skills.
All you need to know is a C Pentatonic scale, where many drum circle melodic instruments are well known for these days. So what is a C Pentatonic scale? Look at a keyboard and play the white notes, just leave out the F and B note and Walla you have a C pentatonic scale! Which means it’s impossible to play a wrong note! Whatever note you play (as long as you leave the F and B) it will sound musical. Great for non-musicians, which means anyone can play from 1 to 101 years of age.
