Rhythm & Flow: Learn Foundational Rhythms

 —  —

Zoom, Online

This 3-hour online rhythm workshop is a warm, practical, and inspiring introduction to the world of hand drumming, rhythm, coordination, and group facilitation. Designed for beginner drummers, music facilitators, educators, parents, youth workers, wellness practitioners, community leaders, and anyone wanting to explore rhythm in a deeper and more meaningful way, this workshop offers a supportive space to learn, play, and connect through drumming.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll explore the core foundations of rhythm, including pulse, timing, groove, coordination, listening, and simple hand drumming techniques. We’ll also explore how rhythm can support mindfulness, focus, creativity, confidence, and wellbeing through movement, breathing, and interactive rhythm exercises. Alongside the musical foundations, you’ll learn simple and accessible ways to facilitate engaging drum circles for groups of all ages and abilities — whether in classrooms, community settings, wellness spaces, family gatherings, or personal practice.

This workshop is designed to help you feel more confident with rhythm, more connected to your body and creativity, and more comfortable leading and participating in group rhythm experiences. You’ll gain practical tools, exercises, and facilitation ideas that you can continue using long after the workshop is complete. My approach to teaching rhythm is relaxed, encouraging, and highly experiential, focusing on participation, connection, and enjoyment rather than perfection or performance.

Participants are encouraged to have a hand drum for the workshop if possible, as this will allow you to fully participate in the exercises and activities. All demonstrations will be playing the djembe drum. Any hand drum is welcome — including djembes, frame drums, bongos, congas, cajons, or similar percussion instruments.

*Core Rhythm Foundations — Learn pulse, timing, groove, and basic hand drumming. Gain confidence and steady rhythm.

*Coordination & Body Awareness — Build hand independence and full-body coordination. Improve focus and control.

*Wellness & Mindfulness — Use rhythm for relaxation, grounding, and stress release. Gain practical calming tools.

*Creativity & Improvisation — Create and explore your own rhythms. Gain confidence to play freely.

*Facilitating Drum Circles — Learn simple ways to lead group rhythm sessions. Gain tools to run inclusive drum circles.

No previous drumming experience is needed — just a willingness to learn, explore, and enjoy the experience of rhythm together.

Creative Native Flute & Percussion Workshop

 —  —

TBC, Maleny

Join Peta Minter of Positive Music for a heart-led, community-based workshop exploring the creative and healing qualities of sound through Native American flute style and percussion. With over 30 years of experience in music education and group facilitation, Peta offers a safe and nurturing space where people of all backgrounds can feel comfortable to explore, connect, and express.

This workshop is open to adults of all experience levels—from complete beginners to more experienced players. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to deepen your creative expression, you’ll be supported to participate at your own pace in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

No prior musical experience is needed—just an open heart and a willingness to listen and play. You’ll be gently guided through simple, intuitive techniques to create flowing flute melodies and grounding rhythms, using breath, presence, and natural expression.

Together, we’ll explore how music can quiet the mind, feel energised, release tension, and support emotional balance. Through guided group playing, mindful listening, and moments of stillness, you’ll experience the joy of creating sound in a supportive and connected space.

This is not about performance, but about presence, creativity, and connection—both within yourself and with others.

Come as you are, and leave feeling inspired, grounded, and uplifted.

Drums/percussion and a few flutes provided (flute booking is essential)
