Honey Highlife is a fun upbeat and groovy percussion piece in the style of Ghanaian Highlife music. With driving bass groove from bass xylophone and floor tom, beautiful dialog rhythms from the West African djembe and conga, featuring floating melodies from alto and soprano xylophones. Honey Highlife classroom percussion music will have kids moving and grooving.
This lovely arrangement from percussionist/composer Peta Minter also features a funky break with body percussion, encouraging students to explore rhythms, sounds and improvisation.
Honey Highlife percussion composition is part of Peta’s series of environmental themes, bringing awareness to our important Australian fauna and flora. Peta say’s, this song is inspired by my time in nature, in my garden, just sitting and watching the beautiful honey eaters and the busy native bees.
Did you know Australian Honeyeaters belong to the Meliphagidae family which has 187 species, half of which are found in Australia. And the native bee only lives for about 8 days. All of these species are an important part of our fauna and flora.
