Discover the calming power of Native American flute, gongs and rhythms of the African djembe drum. Learn how sound healing meditation can bring deep relaxation and inner peace.
Can combinations of frequencies from instruments across the globe such as African djembe drum, the native American flute and ancient metal instruments from Asia relaxation and stress release? How can we learn from those traditions who use these instruments and techniques to improve wellness and mindfulness?
Learning harmonic and soothing combinations of native American flute meditation melodies, ancient gongs, singing bowls and healing rhythms of African drums and how powerful these frequencies can transport us into a space within, of relaxation, even a sense of deep peace.
At Positive Music studio I’ve recorded a short example of the harmonic sounds of the gongs, rhythms of African and middle eastern drums with soothing improvised melodies from the native American flute in this video. To show how certain combination of frequencies can settle the nervous system.
Do you remember that experience… peace? Or has it been a while?
I have been exploring and delving deep into sound for wellbeing for many years now. Studying with masters across the globe who hand down sound healing traditions from Nepal and Asia and the west.
This year I’m focusing on the sounds of the native American flute, rhythms of the djembe drum and many sound healing instruments such as gongs, Himalayan singing bowls that support the nervous system. My passion and commitment is to continue sharing this knowledge with others with my online lessons.
When I improvise sound healing meditations with Native American flute, gongs and drums, they immediate have an impact on my mood. The combination of frequencies can gently guide the body into a state of relaxation by supporting the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of our nervous system responsible for rest, recovery, and restoration.
When we experience ongoing stress, the body can remain in a heightened “fight or flight” response. The soothing tones and vibrations of instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, the Native American flute, and traditional drums can help slow the breath, soften muscle tension, and invite the body to shift into a calmer, more balanced state.
The sustained frequencies and resonant overtones created by these instruments encourage deep listening and stillness. As the mind begins to quiet, the body often follows, allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to gently activate.
Through my work with sound bath meditation, and in guiding people with learning instruments such as the Native American flute and the African djembe, I often see how breath, rhythm, and tone naturally encourage relaxation. The flute invites slow, mindful breathing, while the steady pulse of the drum can create a grounding rhythm that settles the body and mind.
Whether listening to these instruments in meditation or learning to how play them, sound can become a simple and powerful pathway back to physical and emotional calm. In this space of listening, breathing, and rhythm, many people rediscover a sense of presence, connection, and inner peace.
