Empower yourself and build rhythmical knowledge and skills
I’ve been meaning to create an online drumming and percussion workshop for the past 4 years. Finally, I have the required audio and video equipment to achieve high quality online workshops. My aim for this series is to share knowledge and help you gain skills and build self confidence with the power of drumming and percussion ensemble music.
Learn drum and percussion ensemble music for more creative expression
I feel honoured, that there have been many people around Australia and the globe who are interested in learning from me and I’m so happy to offer River Red Gum workshop Modules for you. Here I post a lot of photos on my Instagram.
I wanted you to be the first to find out exactly what’s been happening. The past 2 weeks I’ve been busy in my video and small recording studio, mixing, mastering audio, editing video, (I have a new camera, thanks to my wonderful Husband, pictured in the photo above) and some extra lighting too, for that lovely ambient atmosphere.
Let’s take a look at this online drumming series
When it comes to learning to play drums, it’s really important to understand the relationship the drum has with other instruments within music. As you may know the drum is such a powerful instrument in regards to the energy factor. When we play drums, it immediately brings us into the moment and grounds us. Gives us a sense of strength and owning our power… yes?
When we play the djembe or congas in a percussion ensemble for example, each drum and percussion instrument have a different rhythm and role to play that makes up a beautiful in sync percussion song. Learning how these rhythms and instruments interact are vital to your drumming practice. If you were just playing your drum on your own, now worries, there’s no need to understand the role and rhythms of other drums.
However, I really encourage all drum students to learn a variety of drums and percussion instruments and rhythms. This gives us a deeper understanding of rhythm. In this upcoming online drumming workshop, you’ll learn the role of:
- African djembe drum – 3 beautiful rhythms (how they connect with the conga rhythm) and fun solo
- Congas (or second djembe) – 2 rhythms and how these rhythms support each section of the song and djembe solo
- Floor tom (or African dun) – 2 simple yet powerful rhythms that support the entire song and a powerful build rhythm (fill) to create energy and tension within the percussion song
- African go-go bell – how to create unique sounds and rhythms
- Triangle – how to play and develop technique to create rhythmical expression
- Shaker and sleigh bells – the vital role these instruments play within the music
- Plus an extra bonus video, and downloads within the package.
There are 5 Modules within the workshop featuring, in depth lessons on djembe, congas, floor tom and hand-held percussion.
The online River Red Gum percussion workshop will be available next week, so please keep an eye out for it.
