Research tells us that drumming can uplift our mood and reduce stress…
The arts have the ability to take us out of the loop from overthinking, into the power of creativity such as creating drumming music and rhythms. The African djembe is a wonderful versatile drum to play and gain the benefits of silencing the mind. The part of mind that has highjacked our self-esteem. You know those thoughts… what will people think of me?... I’m not good enough… I’m not worthy… I don’t belong… etc.
Many of us are searching for peace. We’re wanting to learn ways to continue a practice of wellbeing that brings joy and self-acceptance. Are you looking for these virtues? Maybe drumming meditation could help?
A healthy mindset can transform our life! Drumming meditation can be a lovely place to start our creative journey and stepping stone for deep experiences of self-healing. I believe we are being called upon for personal transformation. I mean just look at the state of the world, the violence around the globe, the lack of compassion and empathy. We are calling for more peace… yes?
By using music with the combination of meditation we can transform and tap into our virtues of self-love and self-respect. Not only does music have the ability to take care and cleanse all chakras within the body, it has the amazing capacity to connect us to our higher self and spirituality. It’s a journey that begins with us and bringing music into our hearts as a sound healing tool to let go of unwanted thoughts of self-sabotage.
Jump on board the peace train with drumming meditation
Would you like more peace and deeper connection and meaning in life? Maybe better relationship with yourself and others? Do you have a djembe drum? Well let’s get started shall we. In this video I share with you a simple djembe rhythm that goes beautifully with the song I recorded (at my home studio) called Meditation in Rhythm. I included in this meditation track a beautiful range of my Himalayan singing bowls (which are hand crafted by hand), and many other sound healing instruments. You may have notice that the drumming meditation play-along track is 80 beats per minute? Which research has proven that drumming at this tempo relaxes mind and body, helping to ease stress, anxiety.
By listening and playing along to drumming meditation music that has been created for this purpose in mind, we can really begin to make progress in our wellbeing. Non talk therapy can help those with trauma and music can be a catalyst for healthy relationship with the self. Whether using the drum as drum therapy or music therapy even in school classrooms, turning to the arts has a positive and lasting effect emotionally, mentally and physically. And that’s a good thing… yes?
Let’s get creative, make the djembe rhythm your own
I’m a huge advocate for music improvisation! Which I teach in my drum circle facilitator training. Yes, once you have learned the djembe rhythm to the play-along drumming track Meditation in Rhythm, start adding your own notes, what can you play that will complement the djembe rhythm? If you are struggling to make the rhythm your own, just imagine that the rhythm is the foundation to building a house, we start with the ground and frame the drum rhythm. Then we add the room and walls – the sounds from the drum such as tones, bass, slaps. Then its decoration the house, now this is where we can begin to be creative and decorate and a little of you into the rhythm. The objective is to let go and have fun.
When was the last time you experienced pure joy and fun? Time to get more into music, more into the healing arts, more into transformation. Grab your drum now and playing along the Meditation in Rhythm for about 20 minutes and see what happens. Please feel free to email me of how you went, I’d love to hear how you go.
